PHILOSOPHY

Every action that we take as individuals should revolve around a set of principles that we hold true.  Athletics is no different.  Everyday that I step onto the baseball field I make sure that I live by a simple philosophy that I have developed over the years.  This philosophy serves as a driving force, a focal point, and a reminder of why I am involved in coaching this game.  It is my mission to make sure that this philosophy is conveyed to everyone involved in our baseball program on a daily basis.

The game of baseball will be used in this program as an educational tool that we can use to improve all areas of our lives.  This program will have a set of standards that all players who choose to participate will meet.  By committing themselves to this, our players will be committing themselves to excellence.  As a coaching staff we will provide them with every opportunity to achieve their goals, and we will expect them to take advantage of those opportunities.  At the same
time we will stay focused on the fact that baseball is not just about competition.  Baseball is not an arena to build winners, but rather, it is an arena to help build winning people.

The foundational beliefs of this team can be stated in four sentences.  This team will…
- provide the individual with a different setting in life to achieve excellence.
- understand that excellence can only be achieved through hard work physically, mentally, and emotionally.
- work cooperatively in all three of these areas.
- be successful everyday.

In order for these four things to be accomplished we must have everyone sharing in these beliefs.  We must also have the same attitude and approach to what we do.  As a group we must all believe in the theory that there is a wrong way to play this game, a right way, and the Spudder way.  We must realize that we rely on one another for success as a whole and as individuals.
